Why Your Mazda CX-70 Is Announcing Traffic Congestion Ahead

If your CX-70 suddenly started announcing “Traffic Congestion Ahead” during your drives, there’s a good chance your navigation system received a recent update. Mazda’s 2026 models support over-the-air (OTA) updates that can enhance navigation features, improve voice recognition, and add new traffic alert capabilities. A maps or navigation system update could have enabled this feature, or it may have been toggled on in your system settings during the update process.

Understanding the Traffic Congestion Alert Feature

The voice alert for traffic congestion is part of Mazda’s Connect navigation system. When enabled, the system announces upcoming traffic conditions ahead of your current route, helping you anticipate slowdowns and potentially change your path. This feature relies on real-time traffic data to provide timely warnings.

The navigation system doesn’t generate this data on its own. Instead, it pulls traffic information from multiple sources, including Radio Data System/Traffic Message Channel (RDS/TMC) data transmitted through FM or DAB+ radio stations. Mazda’s navigation system also integrates live traffic information when your vehicle is connected, providing up-to-date congestion reports as you drive.

Where the Traffic Data Comes From

Mazda uses navigation software and traffic services provided by TomTom, a leader in mapping and traffic information technology. The system combines several data sources: historical traffic patterns for specific roads and times, real-time congestion information from connected devices and road sensors, and radio-based traffic alerts broadcast by local stations in your area.

When your vehicle is paired with the MyMazda app through Mazda Connected Services, it can receive enhanced traffic data and live navigation updates. This connectivity allows for more accurate and timely congestion alerts.

How to Control the Feature

You can manage this feature directly in your navigation settings. Access Navigation → Menu → Nav Settings → Traffic Settings, where you’ll find options to enable or disable voice announcements for traffic events. You can also customize how traffic information is displayed on your map—choosing to show both flow and icons, flows only, or icons only.

If you prefer not to hear the verbal alerts, simply toggle off the voice announcement option. The system will still display traffic information visually on your map, but it won’t announce conditions aloud.

Recent Updates and 2026 Improvements

The 2026 Mazda CX-70 received several infotainment improvements, including faster processing speeds, enhanced voice recognition, and expanded OTA update capabilities. These updates allow Mazda to push navigation and traffic-related improvements directly to your vehicle without requiring a dealership visit.

If you haven’t already, check your vehicle’s software version in the system settings. The announcement feature you’re experiencing is likely the result of a navigation system or maps data update that either enabled the feature for the first time or toggled it on by default.

Checking Your Software Version and Recent Updates

To see if your system has received recent updates, you can review your vehicle’s software version through the infotainment menu. The MyMazda app also allows you to manage software updates and view your vehicle’s update history. If you have enabled automatic updates through your connected services account, new navigation and traffic features may be applied without your explicit action.
