Lucid Key Fob Replacement: Deactivating Lost Fobs and Programming a Spare

Can You Deactivate a Lost Lucid Key Fob and Program Your Spare?

The short answer is yes, but you can’t do it yourself. Lucid’s keyless entry system requires professional programming at a Lucid Service Center. You can have your lost fob deactivated and your spare programmed to take its place, but the process has a few requirements worth understanding upfront.

Deactivating Your Lost Key Fob

Contact your nearest Lucid Service Center as soon as you realize your fob is missing. Lucid can deactivate the lost fob in their system, preventing anyone who might have found it from using it to access your vehicle. This deactivation is done remotely—you don’t need to bring the missing fob to the dealership.

Programming Your Spare Key Fob

While Lucid offers over-the-air updates for many vehicle features, key fob programming is not a DIY task. The Air requires specialized diagnostic equipment that’s only available at Lucid Service Centers. You cannot program a key fob yourself using button sequences or any method the owner’s manual describes.

When you schedule your appointment, there’s one critical requirement: bring ALL of your keyless access items with you. This includes any remaining key fobs, NFC cards, and valet cards. The entire system is reprogrammed as a unit to maintain security, so all devices must be updated together.

What to Expect at Your Service Appointment

A Lucid technician will deactivate the lost key fob and program your spare into the vehicle’s security system. This usually takes 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how busy the service center is.

The cost breaks down roughly like this: a replacement key fob runs about $106, and programming typically costs $246. Total cost is usually around $350, though pricing may vary slightly by location and whether you’re using a warranty or prepaid service plan.

What to Do While Your Spare Is Being Programmed

If you need to access your car before your service appointment, you have backup options. Every Lucid Air comes with an NFC card in addition to each key fob. Hold the NFC card within about 2 inches of the sensor on the left B pillar to lock and unlock your doors.

If you previously set up the mobile key feature in the Lucid app on your phone, that works too. The mobile key provides the same access as a physical fob.

Why Lucid Requires This Process

Lucid’s security architecture ties each fob and NFC card to a specific vehicle through encryption. This prevents someone from buying a used key fob and programming it to another Lucid—the fob remains locked to its original vehicle. When you add or reprogram a key, the entire system must be updated to ensure all your access devices work correctly with your specific car.
